The use of Artificial intelligence is becoming more and more common across different industries. This means that artificial intelligence (AI) systems are being used for all kinds of different purposes – from the most menial of tasks to the most complex ones, you could say that artificial intelligence has and is continuously revolutionizing not just the tech world but our way of life in general.

Healthcare is one field that artificial intelligence (AI) definitely seems to have its place in – wearable technology is one example of how artificial intelligence is introduced. Wearable technology aided by artificial intelligence in healthcare has been around for a few years now, with products such as smart watches and wearable fitness trackers on the market today.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

An artificial intelligence system is a program that can complete tasks such as data processing and decision-making without the need for humans to perform these processes. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems are able to learn based on past experiences instead of having to be programmed with specific instructions, making artificial intelligent systems extremely efficient and reliable.

How does it affect the Healthcare and the Medical Industry?

From artificial intelligent systems that provide an early warning for health problems, to wearable artificial intelligence in healthcare that can monitor a person’s daily movements or look for any changes in a person’s balance, artificial intelligence has the potential to improve healthcare for people across the world.

Many artificial intelligent systems have been developed to collect data from wearable technologies – these artificial intelligence systems can predict changes in a person’s health based on certain patterns displayed by the wearable technology, with the artificial intelligence system then sending an alert to a healthcare provider.

The ability of artificial intelligence (AI) systems to look for patterns in large amounts of data means artificial intelligence can potentially predict future health issues, allowing healthcare professionals to start treatment before the problem becomes serious – and as such, AI in wearable technology is one example where this has already been successfully achieved.

There are artificial intelligence systems in development that can look for certain indicators in wearable technology, artificial intelligence systems that can monitor the wearer’s balance and AI systems that can identify when a person has fallen. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed artificial intelligence that monitors biomarkers in blood samples via wearable technology – artificial intelligent systems like this could be used in less wealthy countries without high-end laboratory equipment, thus opening up new possibilities in medicine and healthcare across the world.

Another benefit of artificial intelligent systems (AI) being able to process vast amounts of data quickly is that it reduces the time needed for analysis by healthcare professionals, meaning artificial intelligent technology used in healthcare could free up healthcare professionals’ time to work on other areas of the healthcare system. So AI in healthcare does not just benefit medical patients and those seeking treatment but also the healthcare professionals as well.

Although artificial intelligence is making huge progress, especially when it comes to healthcare, there are still many challenges that have to be overcome before artificial intelligence becomes a reality for everyone – for example, the ability of artificial intelligence systems to correctly interpret data and make decisions must be improved. Of course, you can’t predict the future but hopefully with research by scientists around the world we will continue to see more effective healthcare products being developed using nothing but artificial intelligence.

It is clear to see why artificial intelligence in healthcare is very useful – artificial intelligent systems have the potential to revolutionise healthcare more, making it more accessible to people across the world.
